Our Chapter's Story

The FAMU-FSU  National Society of Black Engineers chapter was established with a clear mission: to increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community. From its inception, our chapter has been a beacon of leadership, innovation, and commitment to excellence.


Over the years, our chapter has grown significantly, not just in membership numbers but in the scope of our influence. We have successfully launched numerous programs that support educational and professional development, from local workshops to national competitions. Our commitment to academic excellence and community outreach has been recognized with several awards and accolades, affirming our role as leaders within the NSBE and the broader community.

History & Mission

Founded in 1971 as the Black Society of Engineers at Purdue by Edward Barnette and Fred Cooper, the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) now supports over 31,000 members across 700+ chapters worldwide, focusing on academic excellence, professional development, and community impact.
